JARED Leto is reportedly being lined up to replace Will Smith in new futuristic thriller-drama Brilliance.

The Dallas Buyers Club Oscar winner and Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, in early talks to step in for Smith, who departed the project in May due to scheduling conflicts.

An adaptation of Marcus Sakey’s novel, Brilliance is set in a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and labelled ‘brilliants’.

Sources say that Leto is being lined up to play a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is tasked with hunting down a terrorist, a fellow ‘brilliant’, who intends to start a civil war.

Noomi Rapace, of Prometheus fame, will also star in the film, which Universal will distribute.

Julius Onah is directing the project, which has a script by David Koepp.

Smith has Focus in the works (which is set for release next February) and recently became attached to Ridley Scott’s NFL concussion movie.
