Jared Leto's Joker - 'I don't know if everyone's ready' says Zack Snyder

Suicide Squad

Story by Jack Foley

JARED Leto has already sent tongues wagging about his portrayal of iconic movie villain The Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. But, according to the film’s producer, Zack Snyder, nothing can prepare you for what he has come up with.

Speaking to USA Today, Snyder applauded Leto’s performance, saying that he “really goes all the way”.

“You’re going to get taken on a journey with Jared that I don’t know that everyone’s ready for but I think it will be amazing,” he said.

“The commitment to the role, you’re going to see that really shine through in a way that you’re not used to seeing actors in movies really go all the way with [in] every little moment and every little breath.”

Snyder has seen Leto at work because he was able to keep a close eye on proceedings as both a producer on Suicide Squad and because he is also directing fellow DC movie Batman v Superman which will tie in.

But reports have already emerged from the set that no one met Leto, the actor, during filming given the Method he used to immerse himself in the character, even going so far as to send co-star Margot Robbie a rat as a “present” before production started.

The film’s director, Ayer, also said that his co-stars “kept their distance” throughout filming, to give Leto enough space.

“It’s a scary character to tackle,” continued Ayer, in a separate interview. “This iteration of him, people will realise there really is a continuity of history – there is a lot of respect for what The Joker represents, who he is as a character.

“He is the best-known villain in fiction so there’s an incredible responsibility there to also be faithful to what he is but at the same time push him into this next world, next time, next phase.”

Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on August 5, 2016.
