JASON Clarke is to star in 20th Century Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

As yet, it is unclear who Clarke will play but the film, which marks the anticipated follow-up to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will be set 15 years after the events of the first film.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is rumoured that there will be two story strands: one involving the human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, and the other on the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.

Matt Reeves, of Cloverfield and Let Me In fame, is directing with shooting due to begin this spring.

Clarke has recently shot to big screen prominence following acclaimed turns alongside Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in Lawless and in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.

He’ll soo be seen playing George Wilson in the upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby, directed by fellow Australian Baz Luhrmann.

The actor also starred on Fox’s short-lived but really rather excellent cop drama The Chicago Code and Showtime’s gangsters-and-politics drama Brotherhood.
