Jason Statham and Simon West reunite for Heat remake

Jason Statham in The Expendables

Story by Jack Foley

JASON Statham is to work with director Simon West for a third time on a remake of 1986 Burt Reynolds vehicle Heat.

Statham will take on the role originally played by Reynolds, Nick Escalante, a compulsive gambler whose addiction has forced him to take dodgy security jobs to finance his habit.

However, when a friend is brutally beaten for an unpaid debt, he decides to take on the mob responsible single-handedly.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Oscar-winning screenwriter William Goldman (All The President’s Men).

The remake will be action heavy as Cory Yuen, who worked with Statham on The Transporter, will be the action director and fight choreographer.

Heat is due to begin shooting in February next year.

Statham and West have previously worked together on The Mechanic (another remake) and – most recently – The Expendables 2.

Statham will shortly be seen alongside Jennifer Lopez in Parker.
