Jaume Collet-Serra to direct Shazam! spin-off Black Adam

Story by Jack Foley

JAUME Collet-Serra is to direct Shazam! spin-off Black Adam.

The director, who just finished shooting Disney’s Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson, is reuniting with Johnson for the DC Comics-based action movie.

Black Adam is considered the arch-nemesis of Shazam and dates all the way back to the 1940s when the hero was called Captain Marvel.

He is described as a semi-immortal Egyptian prince who became corrupted by the magical powers imbued to him by a wizard.

Johnson has long been attached to the project as its star and many thought his character might cameo in the recent Shazam! movie, possibly as part of a post-credits scene. But that cameo never materialised.

Rather, Warners and DC have since decided the character – combined with Johnson’s A-list power – deserved his own movie, possibly setting things up for a future showdown between the superhero Shazam! and the anti-hero Black Adam.

Collet-Sera has previously worked with Liam Neeson on a number of action flicks including The Commuter and Non-Stop. He last helmed the hit shark thriller The Shallows, featuring Blake Lively as a surfer attacked by a great white.

Shazam!, starring Zachary Levi, was a massive box office hit earlier this year.
