OSCAR-WINNING actor Javier Bardem is in talks to play Frankenstein’s monster in a new series of films from Universal Studios.

According to Variety, the No Country For Old Men and Skyfall star would play the role of Victor Frankenstein’s creation, rather than the mad professor himself.

The film forms part of Universal’s ongoing commitment to revive all of its classic horror heroes.

Tom Cruise is already starring in a modern take on The Mummy, which is about to end shooting, while Johnny Depp is in contention to play The Invisible Man.

There is also talk of a Bride of Frankenstein film, with further rumours suggesting that The Mummy could be used as a platform to introduce several of the characters in the form of cameos.

Frankenstein has already featured in 48 films, most recently 2015’s critically derided Victor Frankenstein, with James McAvoy as the surgeon and Daniel Radcliffe his trusty assistant, Igor.
