Javier Bardem intrigued by playing Bond's new nemesis

Story by Jack Foley

JAVIER Bardem could become James Bond’s latest nemesis in Sam Mendes’ forthcoming 23rd 007 adventure.

The Oscar-winning actor (for No Country For Old Men) has admitted that he recently men with Mendes to talk about playing the villain in the next instalment of the franchise.

Although no agreement has been reached as yet, Bardem admits to finding the conversation “very intriguing”, but still wants to read a finished screenplay first.

He told the Los Angeles Times: “I’m a huge fan of the James Bond saga. When I was little, I went watching Mr Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I’d be in one of those movies?”

Asked whether he could elaborate on any potential role further, he added: “They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced.”

The 23rd James Bond movie is set for a November 9, 2012, release.
