Jennifer Lawrence joins East of Eden remake

The Hunger Games

Story by Jack Foley

JENNIFER Lawrence is being lined up to star in a remake of classic James Dean movie East of Eden.

Based on John Steinbeck’s epic saga of blood ties and betrayal in 1900s California, the new film is being directed by Gary Ross, who previously worked with the Oscar-winning young actress on The Hunger Games.

Lawrence would play abused young Cathy Ames, the woman at the centre of the story, who later changes her name and becomes a brothel madam.

Steinbeck originally described the character as a “psychotic monster” with a “malformed soul”.

Jo Van Fleet previously played Cathy alongside James Dean’s Cal in the 1955 original.

Lawrence will next be seen reuniting with David O Russell (of Silver Linings Playbook fame) in FBI drama American Hustle (which also co-stars Bradley Cooper) as well as the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.
