Jennifer Lawrence to star in Hunger Games

Winter's Bone

Story by Jack Foley

JENNIFER Lawrence has officially been cast as Katniss Everdeen in the movie version of Hunger Games.

The Oscar-nominated star of Winter’s Bone has been hotly tipped to land the role for some time and has already been given a ringing endorsement by Suzanne Collins, author of the young adult novel from which the film will be adapted.

In a statement, Collins said: “Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never though we’d find somebody this perfect for the role.”

Gary Ross will direct the film and he commented: “Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence landed the role ahead of True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld and Little Miss Sunshine‘s Abigail Breslin.

Lawrence will shortly be seen in summer blockbuster X-Men: First Class. Watch the trailer
