Kung Fu Panda 2, Jennifer Yuh Nelson

Story by Jack Foley

JENNIFER Yuh Nelson is to make her live-action filmmaking directorial debut with Darkest Minds.

An adaptation of the Young Adult trilogy by Alexandra Bracken, the film follows a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers who is forced to go on the run from the government with a group of teens.

The action unfolds after a pandemic kills most of America’s children and teenagers, leaving some of those that survive with various superpowers. When they are deemed too dangerous for society, they are taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.

The book has been described as a combination of superhero convention, coming-of-age tale (a la Stand By Me)and post-apocalyptic survivor tale in the mould of The Walking Dead.

Nelson is hitherto best known for helming the Kung Fu Panda movies, Kung Fu Panda 2 and this year’s follow-up Kung Fu Panda 3. Prior to that, she also rose trough the animation ranks working on shows such as Spawn and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest.
