Jeremy Renner developing Steve McQueen biopic

The Hurt Locker

Story by Jack Foley

JEREMY Renner is developing a new Steve McQueen biopic in which he would star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two-time Oscar nominee has just formed a new production company, The Combine, with partner Don Handfield and intends to make the McQueen biopic his first order of business.

James Gray, who wrote and directed We Own The Night, is attached to write the screenplay, which would be based on the two books by Marshall Terrill: Portrait of an American Rebel and The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon.

Ivan Zacharias, a video director, has been linked to make his directorial debut.

The project remains very much in the development stage at the moment and is being touted as a star vehicle for Renner, who has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading men since his back-to-back Oscar nominations for The Hurt Locker and The Town.

The biggest problem, however, could be scheduling for Renner, as he currently has Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (which he is currently shooting in Berlin) and Marvel’s The Avengers in various stages of completion.

He’s also weighing up an offer to star in The Bourne Legacy for Universal, which would shooting in the autumn. And he will lend his voice to the next Ice Age movie. Busy times indeed!
