Jessica Brown Findlay lands Winter's Tale lead

DOWNTON Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay has landed the leading role in forthcoming fantasy drama Winter’s Tale.

Based on Mark Helprin’s 1983 novel of the same name, the film will see the actress playing a dying woman who falls in love with a thief after he breaks into her home.

The action takes place across two time zones – 19th Century and contemporary New York.

According to Deadline , the film has been adapted by writer-director Akiva Goldsman, who is previously best known for penning the screenplays for A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code. Winter’s Tale will mark his feature directorial debut.

Russell Crowe is reportedly in talks to play one of the film’s villains, while Aaron Johnson and Garrett Hedlund are also rumoured to be in the running to play the thieving male lead. Will Smith has also been linked to the project.

Filming is due to begin in New York this October.
