Jessica Watson story to be turned into film

Jessica Watson

Story by Jack Foley

THE story of how Australian hero Jessica Watson sailed around the world is to be turned into a film.

The project will be based upon the 19-year-old’s own book True Spirit and will tell how the then 16-year-old circumnavigated the globe solo and unassisted aboard the 10-metre long sailboat Ella’s Pink Lady.

Shooting will commence early next year (2013) with a view to releasing the film towards the end of that year.

The film was announced at the Australian International Movie Convention and was followed by a statement from Watson that read: “It’s an honour to have a feature film made about you – quite surreal and very exciting.

“It will be interesting to watch how a film is made. I’m looking forward to working closely with the production team and Paramount in my capacity as a consultant on the project.”

The film will be shot in Australia, with location shooting in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
