JK Simmons and Emile Hirsch to star in The Runaround

OSCAR winner JK Simmons, of Whiplash fame, is to star alongside Emile Hirsch (Lone Survivor) for a the new comedy The Runaround.

To be directed by Gavin Wiesen (The Art Of Getting By), the film follows a globe-trotting, workaholic father (Simmons) as he tries to visit his daughter on a last minute layover in Los Angeles, only to discover that she’s disappeared.

As a result, he forces her awkward, nervous ex-boyfriend (Hirsch), still nursing a broken heart, to help him find her over the course of one increasingly crazy night.

Set to shoot in Los Angeles in July, the film is produced in association with Abbolita Films and Heretic Films, and is based on a screenplay by Seth W. Owen (upcoming Morgan).

“The script is a wildly entertaining ride from start to finish and we can’t wait to bring this film to audiences.”

Simmons won the Academy Award this year and received critical acclaim for his performance in Damien Chazelle’s worldwide festival hit Whiplash. He will next be seen in the highly anticipated Terminator Genisys, to be released by Paramount Pictures on July 1, and the upcoming Warner Bros.’ film The Accountant, with Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick.

He is currently shooting The Meddler with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne.

Hirsch was last seen in Universal Pictures’ box office hit Lone Survivor and will next be seen in The Solution’s Sundance selection Ten Thousand Saints with Ethan Hawke, to be released later this year, and Vincent-N-Roxxy opposite Zoë Kravitz, in post-production.
