JOACHIM Ronning and Espen Sandberg have been selected by Disney to direct Pirates Of The Caribbean 5.

The Norwegian duo are best known for the film Kon-Tiki, which was shot almost entirely on water and which was subsequently nominated for this year’s foreign language Oscar.

Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow and Jerry Bruckheimer will once again produce.

Disney has already set a July10, 2015, worldwide release date.

The script, meanwhile, is being penned by Jeff Nathanson, who was enlisted earlier this year. Plot details remain under wraps and it is not yet known which other franchise stars will return.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has grossed more than $3.5 billion worldwide with the 2011 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides topping the $1 billion milestone.

Kon-Tiki followed the 1947 expedition of anthropologist and explorer Thor Heyerdahl as he sailed from South America to the Polynesian Islands on a wooden raft. Made for $16 million, it has grossed more than $20 million worldwide.
