JOE Manganiello is to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck’s stand-alone Batman movie.

As previously stated, Deathstroke – aka Slade Wilson – is an assassin and mercenary who first appeared in the comics in 1980 and first battled Batman in 1991, when Deathstroke won.

As yet, exact plot details remain firmly under wraps for the movie, which will follow Zack Snyder’s Justice League movies.

DC executive Geoff Johns, who revealed news of the casting in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, and Affleck are co-writing the script, which Affleck will direct.

The film is unlikely to be in cinemas before 2018.

Manganiello shot to prominence among the ensemble of hit HBO series True Blood, where he played a werewolf. His biggest movie role to date was as one of Channing Tatum’s coterie of strippers in Magic Mike and its sequel.
