Joe Wright to direct Peter Pan origins movie

Joe Wright, director of Atonement

Story by Jack Foley

BRITISH director Joe Wright is in talks to direct a Peter Pan origins movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film would take the form of a Batman Begins-style reboot and is being developed by Warner Bros as a high priority project.

Although there are no plot details, the film would embody many of the classic Peter Pan elements, from the loss of innocence, childhood versus adulthood, parental abandonment to immortality.

It is the third Pan movie in development, following on from Columbia’s Pan, which Channing Tatum and Joe Roth are producing, and Disney’s Young Adult novel adaptation, Peter and the Starcatchers, with Gary Ross of (The Hunger Games fame) attached as director.

Wright is hitherto best known for Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina, all costume dramas, but he also has directed the teenage assassin action movie Hanna and The Soloist.

The Peter Pan film is being produced by Greg Berlanti, currently riding high on the success of TV’s Arrow, and will be based on a script by Jason Fuchs, an actor-turned-writer who penned Ice Age: Continental Drift.
