John Hawkes for indie thriller Too Late

John Hawkes

Review by Jack Foley

INDIE king and former Oscar nominee John Hawkes is to star in the indie thriller Too Late.

Written and directed by Dennis Hauck (who is making his feature film debut behind the camera after a series of successful shorts), the film will follow the tangled relationship that exists between a troubled private investigator (Hawkes) and the missing woman he’s been hired to find.

The film will unfold in non-linear fashion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hawkes will be joined by an ensemble that includes Rider Strong (Cabin Fever), Natalie Zea (Justified), Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse) and Academy Award-nominated director and occasional actor Peter Bogdanovich.

Shooting is due to commence in Los Angeles later this month (May 2012).

Hawkes is one of the most interesting character actors around at the moment, having been Oscar nominated for Winter’s Bone.

His other notable work includes Martha Marcy May Marlene (for which he received an Indie Spirit Award nomination) as well as Miami Vice and hit TV series Eastbound & Down.

Hawkes is also attached to Switch, a prequel of sorts to Jackie Brown based on the Elmore Leonard novel with Jennifer Aniston, Dennis Quaid and Ty Burrell.
