John Williams to score Star Wars: Episode VII

Star Wars

Story by Jack Foley

JOHN Williams is to score the next chapter in the Star Wars saga.

The news was confirmed by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy on Saturday (July 27, 2013) at a Star Wars fan event in Germany.

Williams has scored all six Star Wars films so far and has long been on incoming director JJ Abrams’ wish-list as he looks to set up a new trilogy.

But Williams is delighted to be taking part and, in a personal message posted on the Star Wars website, says: “Of course, I haven’t seen the script. The story is still unknown to me, the new story. But I can’t imagine that there will not be some references to the existing stories that we know that would necessitate, and make appropriate, the use of some of the earlier themes.”

The script for Episode VII is being written by Michael Arndt (of Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine fame) and is set to hit cinemas in 2015.

Episode VIII and IX are scheduled in the years after.

Disney look determined to bring back as many originals as possible to the franchise. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all expected to appear in the film.
