Juan Antonio Bayona to direct World War Z sequel

World War Z

Story by Jack Foley

SPANISH filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona has been hired to direct the sequel to Brad Pitt zombie actioner World War Z.

Pitt is expected to return as star and producer given that the blockbuster is now officially his highest grossing film despite pre-release pessimism by box office pundits who were mindful of a third act re-write and alleged behind-the-scenes difficulties.

Nevertheless, World War Z took $540 million at the worldwide box office.

The film followed a former United Nations employee (played by Pitt) who travels the world trying to stop a zombie plague.

Bayona most recently directed tsunami drama The Impossible and also won widespread acclaim for his Spanish-language debut, The Orphanage.
