Judi Dench to star in Tulip Fever movie
Story by Jack Foley
DAME Judi Dench is to star in the film version of the novel Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach.
The historical drama focuses on Cornelis Sandvoort, a Dutch man who has made his fortune from the tulip trade, and who attracts a beautiful young wife whose attention begins to stray when her husband commissions a dashing young painter to do her portrait.
Dame Judi will play the Abbess of St Ursula’s, who takes in orphaned children.
She will star alongside Christoph Waltz, who takes the lead role of Sandvoort, as well as Holliday Grainger and The Hangover‘s Zach Galifianakis.
Sir Tom Stoppard is adapting the novel for British film-maker Justin Chadwick, best known for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, to direct.
Tulip Fever is due to be released next year. It follows the succes of another of Moggach’s novels, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was also made into a movie featuring Dame Judi – who has recently completed shooting the sequel.
