Julia Roberts attached to Little Bee adaptation

Julia Roberts in Duplicity

Story by Jack Foley

JULIA Roberts is attached to star in the big screen adaptation of Chris Cleave’s best-selling novel, Little Bee.

In book form, the human-triumph story is a dual narrative about a young Nigerian asylum-seeker named Little Bee and British magazine editor Sarah O’Rourke, who meet during the oil conflict in the Niger Delta and are reunited in England several years later under mysterious and complex circumstances.

Roberts has reportedly been cast as O’Rourke, according to Deadline.

The project, which formerly had Nicole Kidman attached in a former guise, is being developed at Amazon Studios and is based on a script by Kathleen Robertson (Murder in the First, Boss).

Roberts, who won an Oscar for Erin Brockovich, was recently seen in the sleeper hit Wonder, and will star in Peter Hedges’ Ben Is Back, with Lucas Hedges.

She also has the upcoming drama series Homecoming, also at Amazon Studios.

Robertson has also penned the screenplay to Fox Searchlight’s upcoming film, The Possibilities, Kaui Hart Hemmings’ follow-up novel to The Descendents, which Jason Reitman is directing and producing.

In addition, the hard working actress/writer has her own dramedy, Your Time Is Up, set up at Lifetime with Christina Applegate set to star.
