Julia Roberts dazzles at UK premiere of Eat Pray Love

Eat Pray Love, UK Premiere

Story by Jack Foley

JULIA Roberts dazzled in white when she attended the UK Premiere of her latest movie, Eat Pray Love.

The actress was joined by her co-star Richard Jenkins, writer-director Ryan Murphy, and the real Elizabeth Gilbert, whose best-selling novel provides the inspiration for the movie.

The film itself follows the fortunes of New Yorker Liz Gilbert, a woman who suddenly comes to realise she is unhappy in her life and marriage. Deciding on a divorce, she embarks on an affair with a young actor (James Franco), only to find that this new relationship also fails to offer her the things she is looking for.

Desperate for change, she resolves to spend a year travelling the world – opting for lengthy stays in Rome, at an ashram in India and in Bali where she finds, respectively, food, prayer and romance.

At the UK Premiere in Leicester Square on Wednesday (September 22, 2010), which attracted hundreds of fans, Roberts arrived in a classic white suit from Stella McCartney and was joined by Gilbert, who was decked out in a fairytale black, sparkling gown and netted, sequin-encrusted frock.

Commenting on the movie adaptationl, a delighted Gilbert said she never thought that she would end up being played on-screen by an actress of Roberts’ beauty and calibre.

“It’s a beautiful pick, not necessarily because I look like her, which of course I don’t, but because she has such a gift for intimacy and such a talent for making the viewer love her and want to see her succeed,” she told ITN.

The film opens in UK cinemas on Friday, September 24, 2010.
