FORMER Skins star Kaya Scodelario has boarded the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series alongside Johnny Depp.

She will also join Javier Bardem, who was recently confirmed as the leading villain. But it has not been revealed who she will play.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be released in July 2017 and is being directed by Norwegian duo Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who were behind the Oscar-nominated film Kon Tiki.

Filming is expected to begin shortly in Australia.

Upon being revealed as a cast member by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Scodelario thanked her fans for their support on Twitter.

She wrote: “You guys are the balls (that’s a good thing) seriously, thank you for all your kind words. Ever. You make me smile even when I have the flu.”

Since breaking through in Skins, Scodelario has become a highly sought after actress.

She won widespread acclaim for her performance as Cathy in Andrea Arnold’s award-winning adaptation of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights in 2011 and followed that up with a role in award-winning TV mini-series Southcliffe in 2013 opposite Sean Harris and Rory Kinnear.

Most recently, she secured one of the lead roles in last year’s box office smash The Maze Runner, which has also spawned its own franchise.
