Last Night

KEIRA Knightley is reportedly on the verge of clinching a deal to star opposite Chris Pine in Jack Ryan.

Sources quoted by The Hollywood Reporter indicate that the British actress is being lined up to play Ryan’s wife, who will be at the centre of the latest adventure.

A prequel to the previous films in the franchise, Jack Ryan is intended to possibly re-launch the series and would focus on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Ryan (Pine) as he uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the US economy.

The ensuing film would be a race against time to save America and his wife.

If successful, Knightley would be united with director Kenneth Branagh for the first time, who also has a supporting role as one of the villains in the film.

She is believed to have beaten competition from the likes of Evangeline Lilly and Felicity Jones.

If the report proves true, it would mark Knightley’s first return to franchise movie making since Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean.

Since then, she has opted for more independent fare, including Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World and Last Night as well as two stints on the West End stage in the critically acclaimed The Misanthrope and “The Children’s Hour:/gallery/the-children-s-hour-gallery.

She’ll next be seen alongside Jude Law and Aaron Johnson in period drama Anna Karenina, which will reunite her with Atonement‘s Joe Wright.
