Ken Watanabe joins Godzilla as shooting begins
Story by Jack Foley
KEN Watanabe is the latest high profile name to join the cast of Godzilla, Warner Bros has announced.
The casting addition was revealed on the same day that principal photography on the 3D film officially got under way today (March 18, 2013).
Watanabe, of The Last Samurai and Inception fame, joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston on the movie, which is being directed by Gareth Edwards (of Monsters fame).
As yet, plot or character details are being kept under wraps although The Hollywood Reporter understands that Olsen will play Johnson’s girlfriend and Cranston will play his stepfather.
The screenplay has been co-written by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callahan.
Godzilla is currently scheduled to be released in the US on May 6, 2014.
