Kenneth Branagh to direct and star in Murder on The Orient Express

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Story by Jack Foley

KENNETH Branagh will direct and star in a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, distributing studio Twentieth Century Fox is hoping the film will become the first in a potential new franchise featuring the fastidious Belgian detective, given that he has appeared in 33 novels.

In previous movie form, Poirot has been played by Albert Finney, who was nominated for a best actor Oscar for the 1974 film version of Orient Express.

David Suchet also played the character on British TV for more than 20 years.

The plot of Murder On The Orient Express finds Poirot being called upon to solve a murder aboard the world-famous train.

Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Mark Gordon and Branagh will produce the film, while Michael Green (Blade Runner 2) is writing the screenplay.

Branagh was last seen on-screen in 2014’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which he also directed. He was also back behind the camera for this year’s Disney hit Cinderella.

Branagh is also set to receive the top accolade at this year’s London Critics’ Circle Film Awards. Read more
