Kevin Costner is Superman's Jonathan Kent

Kevin Costner in Rumour Has It

Story by Jack Foley

KEVIN Costner is to star as Superman’s adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, in Zack Snyder’s new Superman movie.

The deal ends weeks of speculation surrounding Costner’s involvement and will see the actor lining up alongside Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Superman’s adopted Earth mother.

The most famous incarnation of Jonathan Kent thus far was by Glenn Ford in the Richard Donner Superman movie.

It is not known whether the same fate (a heart attack) will befall the character in Snyder’s film but as per comics lore, both Jonathan and Martha will help give direction to Superman’s moral compass and teach his honorable values.

A statement released by Warner Bros confirming the casting news added: “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman.

“Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time.”
