KIEFER Sutherland is in talks to star as the villain in Paul WS Anderson’s epic disaster movie Pompeii.

Set in 79 A.D. in the days before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, one of history’s great disasters, the film already stars Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington as a slave stuck on a ship who must race against time to save his true love, his master’s daughter, as well as his best friend, a gladiator trapped in the coliseum.

Jared Harris is on board to play Harington’s master, with Emily Browning cast as his daughter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sutherland is being lined up to play a scheming Roman senator who enslaved Harington’s village and forced the merchant to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to him.

Shooting on the movie began on location in Toronto last week.

Sutherland is currently back on TV screens in his series Touch, which is still awaiting a decision on whether it will get a third series. He also remains determined to bring 24 to the big screen despite current director Antoine Fuqua recently stating that a movie version now looked unlikely.

He’ll next be seen on the big screen in indie thriller The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
