KRISTEN Wiig is in talks to play the villain in Wonder Woman 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is being lined up to play DC comics villain Cheetah, a moniker that has been adopted by multiple characters over the years and who generally are known for having superhuman strength and agility.

Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston first introduced the villain in 1943’s Wonder Woman No. 6. However, her most famous incarnation is Dr Barbara Ann Minerva, who first appeared in 1987, having been co-created by Len Wein and artist George Perez.

Minerva is a British anthropologist and heiress who gains the powers of the cheetah after an expedition to an African jungle.

What is known about the Wonder Woman sequel for sure is that Patty Jenkins is returning to direct and Gal Gadot is reprising her role as the Amazonian princess.

However, actual plot details are unknown, except that it will be set in the 1980s against the backdrop of the Cold War.

Wiig has had an eclectic film career since leaving NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 2012. She first broke out as the star of Bridesmaids, but rather than stay in comedy has branched into drama with indie hits Her and The Diary of a Teenage Girl.

She has continued to mix genres ever since, with roles in studio comedies such as Ghostbusters and Zoolander 2 jostling for position alongside more dramatic turns in films such as Ridley Scott’s The Martian.

Most recently, the actress starred opposite Matt Damon in Alexander Payne’s Downsizing.

Wonder Woman 2 is currently pencilled in for a November 1, 2019, release.
