DAMIEN Chazelle’s La La Land has taken the top prize at the 28th annual Producers Guild Awards.

As widely anticipated, the musical triumphed ahead a number of other shortlisted films, including Manchester By The Sea, Moonlight, Arrival and – most surprisingly – Deadpool.

The awards are seen as yet another useful indicator of which films are likely to find the most success at the forthcoming Oscars.

Further awards went to TV series Stranger Things, which picked up The Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama.

While comedy series Atlanta took home The Danny Thomas Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Comedy.

O.J.: Made in America picked up the documentary prize, while Disney’s Zootropolis won in the animated category.

The ceremony also honoured James L. Brooks with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television, Tom Rothman with the Milestone Award and Irwin Winkler with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award.
