Leonardo DiCaprio tipped for Warner Bros stand-alone Joker movie

The Revenant

LEONARDO DiCaprio is reportedly at the top of the wish-list to play The Joker in the new Warner Bros stand-alone movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the makers of the film have already scored a coup by securing the presence of Martin Scorsese as one of the film’s producers.

And now speculation is mounting that Scorsese’s presence could be enough to entice Oscar-winner DiCaprio into the world of comic books for the first time.

Todd Phillips, of The Hangover fame, is already set to direct the film, which will chronicle the origin story of Batman nemesis, The Joker.

Little else is known, with a script still in the early stages of development.

But it is intended to create a separate Batman universe to the one currently in cinemas, created by Zack Snyder, and which sees Jared Leto playing The Joker. According to the report, Warner Bros eyes the project as a chance to return to the type of quality superhero flick that saw Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy attract Oscar buzz.

As yet, no firm offer has been made to DiCaprio but Hollywood is rife with talk of the possibilities posed by that kind of collaboration.

DiCaprio has already worked with Scorsese five times in the past decade, on films as diverse as The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street.
