Leonardo DiCaprio to star in The Black Hand

Story by Jack Foley

LEONARDO DiCaprio is to star in and produce the crime thriller The Black Hand.

Based on the book The Black Hand: The Epic War Between a Brilliant Detective and the Deadliest Secret Society in American History, which is due to hit shelves in April, the film will unfold in New York in the summer of 1903, as the city is gripped by a crime wave.

The perpetrators would leave a calling card of the symbol of a black hand at each crime scene.

Hot on their trail, however, is Detective Joseph Petrosino, dubbed the ‘Italian Sherlock Holmes’, who is determined to capture them. But his task takes him all the way to Sicily.

DiCaprio is set to play Petrosino. He will also produce through his Appian Way banner.

As yet, there is no word on a director, writer or further casting – and no release date has been set.

However, the film will mark DiCaprio’s first work since winning an Oscar for The Revenant last year.
