Liam McIntyre joins Hercules
Story by Jack Foley
SPARTACUS star Liam McIntyre has joined the cast of Renny Harlin’s Hercules 3D.
Best known for his role in Starz’s Spartacus: War of the Damned, McIntyre will now line up alongside former Twilight star Kellan Lutz in the big-budget take on the Greek demigod.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, McIntyre will play a young army captain named Sotiris who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion.
After they are deceived by an evil king, Hercules and Sotiris are sold into slavery and must fight to earn their freedom.
Harlin commented: “He’s infinitely entertaining to watch. I am lucky to have him play military commander, Sotiris, Hercules’ best friend. Their relationship begins antagonistic and develops into a close bond, forged in battle.”
Budgeted at $70 million, Hercules is aiming to shoot May in Bulgaria and is a rival project to a second Hercules movie being made by Paramount and MGM that stars Dwayne Johnson.
For McIntyre, the role marks a major coup as it will be his first Hollywood role following the conclusion of his starring run on Spartacus, a role he took over after the late Andy Whitfield, the original Spartacus, was diagnosed with cancer.
