Lily James chosen as Disney's Cinderella

Lily James

Story by Jack Foley

DOWNTON Abbey star Lily James has been chosen as Disney’s new Cinderella.

Kenneth Branagh is directing the live-action film, which also stars Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.

James played Lady Rose McClare in the third season of Julian Fellowes’ period drama and is due to reprise that role in this autumn’s season four.

Her previous film work includes playing Korrina in Warner Bros.’ Wrath of the Titans.

Long in development, this new version of the classic Cinderella fairytale is based on an initial script from Aline Brosh McKenna, of Devil Wears Prada fame.

James beat off lots of competition for the role, which was at one time linked closely to former Harry Potter star Emma Watson (although a deal was never closed).
