Story by Jack Foley

LUKE Evans has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich’s big-budget World War II action movie Midway.

The actor will line up alongside the previously announced Woody Harrelson and Mandy Moore in the film, which comes from the director of such disaster epics as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

Emmerich is producing the movie with long-time partner Harald Kloser.

The movie will tell the story of the famed Battle of Midway, widely considered to be a turning point in America’s battle against Japan.

Harrelson is playing Admiral Chester Nimitz, one of the officers who led the American naval fleet to victory in a foray that involved aircraft carriers, destroyers and cruisers.

Evans will play Commander Wade McClusky, who would go on to win a Naval Cross for his role in Midway.

Midway will shoot in Montreal later this year. No release date has yet to be announced.

Evans, whose CV includes Tamara Drewe and Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty & The Beast, is currently shooting Murder Mystery with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston for Netflix.

He most recently starred in TNT’s acclaimed limited series The Alienist with Dakota Fanning.
