Lupita Nyong’o in talks for sci-fi thriller Intelligent Life

OSCAR-winner Lupita Nyong’o is to star in the science fiction thriller Intelligent Life.

The actress, who won an Academy Award for her performance in 12 Years A Slave, is reportedly in advanced talks to play a mysterious woman who turns out to be an extra-terrestrial in the film, which is based on a script by Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly.

Ava DuVernay, hot off the back of the acclaim surrounding his film Selma, is also being tipped to direct the project.

Intelligent Life is based on an earlier project that was previously known as The Ambassador. It follows a United Nations department that is set up to provide first contact in the event of the discovery of alien life.

The lead character subsequently falls in love with an enigmatic woman (potentially played by Nyong’o), only to discover that she is an alien.

According to various online reports, Intelligent Life is said to be similar in tone to Trevorrow’s breakthrough film, the indie time-travel comedy Safety Not Guaranteed, albeit on a larger scale.

Trevorrow is now considered one of Hollywood’s major players following the success of Jurassic World. He is also set to direct Star Wars: Episode IX.

Nyong’o was only recently seen playing another alien in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

But she is back down to Earth for two of her next projects: voicing the female wolf Raksha in Disney’s forthcoming live-action remake of classic 1967 animated musical The Jungle Book and then playing the mother of a Ugandan chess prodigy in the same studio’s true life-inspired The Queen of Katwe.
