M Night Shyamalan confirms sequel to Split

Split

Story by Jack Foley

M NIGHT Shyamalan has confirmed that there will be a sequel to his current hit movie Split.

The film, starring James McAvoy as a man with 23 personalities who kidnaps three teenage girls, has earned the writer-director some of the best reviews of his career since his opening triple whammy of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs.

It has topped the US box office for three weeks and has currently taken $143m worldwide against a budget of just $9m.

News of a follow-up to Split will doubtless delight fans of Shyamalan who may well have been surprised by the film’s ending, which features a cameo by Bruce Willis and a nod to another of the director’s earlier works (we won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it).

But posting on Twitter, Shyamalan suggested that the Split sequel will expand on the world he created in that film – with eagle-eyed film fans able to guess that it could well incorporate another.

The post read: “I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can’t tell you what it is, but If you’ve seen #Split…”

Shyamalan has previously stated that Split was conceived as a follow-up to 2000’s Unbreakable, his superhero thriller.
