ZACK Snyder and Christopher Nolan’s Man of Steel has scored some of the best opening figures for a superhero film of all-time in the UK.

Starring British actor Henry Cavill, the Superman reboot grossed $5.2 million in the UK on Friday (June 14), pacing ahead of Iron Man 3 to score the best opening day of 2013 so far.

It also came in 88% ahead of The Amazing Spider-Man, 11% ahead of Iron Man 3 and 17% ahead of The Dark Knight.

Overall, the film took $17.1 million in the UK to comfortably top the domestic box office.

Internationally as a whole (ie, outside of the US), Man of Steel took $71.6 million from 24 territories, which when added to its record-breaking US total of $125.1 million means that the film enjoyed a global opening of $196.7 million.

The film is estimated to have cost $225 million to make, which means that it’s well on its way to turning a massive profit. A sequel is already in development.

Other countries in which Man of Steel performed well include Mexico and Southeast Asia, including South Korea which saw takings of $9.9 million.
