Margot Robbie trying to make Harley Quinn spin-off happen

Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn

Story by Jack Foley

MARGOT Robbie has expressed her hope that a Harley Quinn spin-off movie could happen.

The Australian actress was one of the few positives to emerge from David Ayer’s critically-derided Suicide Squad and remains hopeful that her iconic comic book character will get the chance to have her own cinematic outing.

Speaking to Tipsy Talk on Sunday, the actress said: “I’m trying to make it happen. Not for anything specifically, but just something. There’s just so much more to do.”

Her comment also referred to Jared Leto’s work as The Joker – another character to have emerged with credit from Suicide Squad despite being under-used.

The film hints at the twisted relationship between former psychiatrist Quinn and clown prince of Gotham, The Joker.

Robbie did reveal that a lot more footage existed that delved more into the relationship in question.

“There was so much of our backstory… [but] they probably realised that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission we were on, and kind of explaining The Enchantress’ position and all that kind of stuff, and the backstory stuff – though it’s like magic… there’s a lot but it just didn’t make sense to confuse the present storyline with that.”

Robbie’s comments come months after The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Bros. has been developing a spin-off for Quinn with the help of Robbie.

However, that film was said to focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains, whereas Robbie herself seems to be pushing for something more focused solely on Quinn and The Joker.
