Mark Rylance joins Sean Penn's Gunman

MULTI award-winning actor Mark Rylance has joined the cast of Sean Penn action thriller The Gunman.

The West End and Broadway great joins a highly impressive cast that also includes Javier Bardem and Idris Elba, along with Jasmine Trinca.

Directed by Pierre Morel, the film stars Penn as an international operative who is betrayed by the organization he works for, prompting a game of cat and mouse across Europe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rylance will play one of Penn’s nemeses.

Rylance is a stage and screen actor who has won the Olivier Award twice, as well as a Tony in 2008 for Boeing Boeing and again in 2011 for Jerusalem.

His screen credits include The Other Boleyn Girl and Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous.

The Gunman is based on a script by Pete Travis, which has been adapted from the novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette. Joel Silver is among the producers.
