Mark Wahlberg set for Icelandic thriller

Mark Wahlberg in Shooter

Story by Jack Foley

MARK Wahlberg is to star in a remake of Icelandic thriller Reykjavic-Rotterdam.

The original, which is Iceland’s foreign language submission for next year’s Oscars, follows the fortunes of an ex-freight ship worker who was fired for smuggling alcohol between Reykjavic and Rotterdam and is struggling to keep work as a security guard.

When his best friend persuades him to sign up for “one last job”, the worker soon realises that he’s been set up and that his friend plans to make off with his family while he’s away at sea.

Variety reports that Working Title films has acquired the rights to the project and has employed Aaron Guzikowski to pen the script.

Original star and producer Baltasar Kormakur will direct the remake.
