Marton Csokas to play villain in The Equalizer

MARTON Csokas is to play the villain in Sony’s big screen makeover of hit ’80s TV show The Equalizer.

The New Zealand born actor will square off against Denzel Washington in the film, which is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, who last teamed up with Washington to Oscar-winning effect in Training Day. Chloe Moretz has also joined the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will find Washington playing Robert McCall, a retired intelligence officer who helps the powerless.

In the movie version, he will be found living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot until one act of kindness towards a prostitute (Moretz) sees him embroiled with the Russian mob.

Csokas will play the movie’s villain, a vicious fixer for the Russians.

Shooting on the movie is due to commence in the summer in Boston.

Csokas is currently shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and has recently wrapped Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, where he played the character Damian Lord.

His other credits include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies, playing Celeborn.
