Marvel working on Muslim superhero Ms Marvel film

Ms Marvel

Story by Jack Foley

MARVEL are working on a new superhero film in the form of Muslim superhero Ms Marvel.

The picture won’t be the studio’s first female-led film given that Brie Larson is already set to enter the franchise as the similarly named Captain Marvel in 2019.

But Avengers: Infinity War producer Kevin Feige told the BBC: “Ms. Marvel… is definitely sort of in the works.”

According to Feige, Ms Marvel is “another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel”.

“We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world,” he explained.

In the comic books, Ms Marvel’s alter-ego is Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager from New Jersey.

As yet, the project is very much in the early stages of development with no release date set, and no cast or director attached.

But speculation is mounting that Priyanka Chopra could be a lead contender, given that she already voices the character in the mobile video game Marvel: Avengers Academy.

And fans have already taken to the Internet to voice their support for her casting. Although others have also noted that the role should go to a Pakistani-American rather than Indian.

For now, it’s a case of watching this space…
