MATTHEW McConaughey has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street.

The actor will join a star-studded ensemble headed by Scorsese regular Leonardo DiCaprio and also featuring Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Rob Reiner, Ethan Suplee and Kyle Chandler.

Based on former broker Jordan Belfort’s best-selling memoir, the film will chronicle Belfort’s dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, taking in his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McConaughey will play Mark Hanna, the early boss and mentor of Belfort (DiCaprio).

Shooting is due to begin in New York this month.

The casting continues McConaughey’s recent rich vein of form with acclaimed roles in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike and William Friedkin’s Killer Joe.

He also has The Paperboy and Mud coming up on the big screen as well as the keenly anticipated HBO series True Detectives, which sees him starring alongside Woody Harrelson in an eight-part show directed by Sin Nombre filmmaker Cary Fukunaga.
