Mel Gibson in talks for Machete Kills

Edge of Darkness

Story by Jack Foley

MEL Gibson is in talks to join Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills.

The story was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter following speculation surrounding the possibility and comments made by the director at a recent press conference.

Machete Kills is the sequel to Rodriguez’s 2010 grindhouse flick, Machete, which in itself was a spin-off from his and Tarantino’s “Grindhouse”: project.

The new story will see Machete – once again played by Danny Trejo – being called upon to stop a cartel leader and an arms dealer who have a weapon in space.

Rodriguez is currently on board to direct although he cautioned that he may have to hand over some of the responsibility to someone else if he gets called away to do Sin City 2.

However, he added: “There’s so much of it that I want to direct I’ll probably end up directing the whole thing. But if I have to step off, I’m going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences. But it’s such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined.”

Elaborating a little more on the new plot, he said: “It’s a really cool concept and I think it takes it to another level in a way that’s compelling for me to go and do it myself.”

Gibson can shortly be seen in How I Spent My Summer Vacation.
