Mel Gibson set to star in Daddy's Home 2

Daddy's Home

Story by Jack Foley

A SEQUEL to Mark Wahlberg-Will Ferrell comedy vehicle Daddy’s Home is being fast-tracked by Paramount, with Mel Gibson being eyed for a role.

The follow-up has been given a US release date of November 10, 2017, placing it against Fox’s Francis Lawrence-helmed thriller Red Sparrow and Sony’s faith-based animated film The Star.

The original Daddy’s Home opened on Christmas Day in 2015 and grossed $240 million worldwide. It also starred Linda Cardellini and Thomas Haden Church and saw Wahlberg and Ferrell battling for the affections of their son – with Ferrell being the step-dad to Wahlberg’s biological father.

Sean Anders’ follow-up will once again see the two types of father figures —- the strong alpha male (Wahlberg) and the sensitive caring type (Ferrell) – going head-to-head… only this time around, the story is expanding to include an older generation, which is where Gibson and – reportedly – John Lithgow would fit in.
