Mel Gibson to star in Mexican prison drama
Story by Jack Foley
MEL Gibson is to star in a new Mexican-based prison drama called How I Spent My Summer Vacation.
The film, which is based on a screenplay by the actor himself, will reassemble key members of the team he used to create Apocalypto. But he does not intend to direct, having passed those duties onto Adrian Grunberg, who was first AD on Apocalypto.
Gibson will, however, play the lead role of a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a prison that’s rife with drug dealing and other crime. He learns how to survive with the help of a nine-year-old boy.
According to Variety, Gibson has been scouting locations in Mexico for nearly a year and is due to start shooting in March next year, using some of the same locations that he employed for Apocalypto.
The announcement comes after Gibson also committed to directing Leonardo DiCaprio in a new epic about Viking culture. Full story
