Michael Fassbender to play Macbeth

Shame, Michael Fassbender

Story by Jack Foley

MICHAEL Fassbender is to play Macbeth in a new film adaptation of the Shakespeare tragedy.

According to Screen Daily, the actor has signed up to play the lead role of a Scottish nobleman whose life is destroyed after he assassinates the king.

Justin Kurzel, who shot to prominence by directing acclaimed Australian true life crime thriller Snowtown, will helm the project.

Casting is currently underway for the role of Lady Macbeth, the hero’s manipulative and ambitious wife.

The film will reportedly adopt a very “visceral” approach to the story and is based on a script by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff.

Ironically, Fassbender’s X-Men co-star James McAvoy has just completed a run in the West End of Macbeth for which he was Olivier nominated.
