Michael Keaton's Birdman leads Independent Spirit Awards nominations (2015)

Birdman

Story by Jack Foley

ALEJANDRO G. Inarritu’s Birdman, which features Michael Keaton as a struggling actor and former superhero movie star as he attempts to mount a Broadway production, leads the nominations for the 2015 Independent Spirit Awards.

The nods include best feature, director and male lead for Keaton.

Following closely behind with five nominations each are Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, the 12 years-in-the-making movie about a boy growing into manhood, Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler, which finds Jake Gyllenhaal trawling the streets of LA in search of news, and Ava DuVernay’s Selma, a portrait of Martin Luther King in a key moment in the civil rights struggle.
